  2. Sperm Collection and Preparation: On the day of the egg retrieval, a semen sample is collected from the male partner or a sperm donor. The sample is then processed in the laboratory to isolate the highest-quality sperm for IMSI.
  3. High-Magnification Sperm Selection: The embryologist uses specialised high-magnification microscopy to examine the sperm in detail, focusing on their morphology and structural integrity. Sperm with optimal morphology, demonstrating the least abnormalities, are selected for injection.
  4. Sperm Injection and Embryo Development: A single morphologically selected sperm is injected into each mature egg using a microneedle. The injected eggs are then cultured in the laboratory, allowing fertilisation to occur and embryos to develop.
  5. Embryo Transfer and Post-Transfer Care: After monitoring the developing embryos, the highest-quality embryos are selected for transfer into the woman’s uterus.
